ITINERARY

The North of Ireland is now a must-see for any traveller arriving in Ireland. This tour enables you to focus on Northern Ireland, the little corner of our Motherland so  present in World Headlines since 1969 but now experiencing a new dawn after an end to the 30 years of political-violence. We introduce you to local guides, the fun-loving characters and customs of both the Ulster-Irish and Ulster-British communities.

Our overnight stays will be some of the great memories of your travels. Downtown Belfast is amazing and the glorious Glens of Antrim are an absolute Irish paradise with Bonnie Scotland in full view 12 miles away. We hike to the famous Rope Bridge (consider crossing at your own risk for a small optional charitable donation to the National Trust, the registered UK charity that maintains the Bridge) and see the eighth wonder of the world, the Giants Causeway, before viewing the formidable Dunluce Castle. Absolutely fantastic photography awaits you on your walking tour of Derry, city walls and scene of ‘Bloody Sunday’ in 1972.

Be seduced by the charm and atmosphere of Derry and Northern Ireland on our overnight stays! With breathtaking scenery, genuine and warm locals, unspoiled landscapes and a living history, Northern Ireland (or ‘Norn Iron’ in the beautful broad local accent) is a real travellers paradise.

ITINERARY (note - this tour will sometimes travel Derry and then Belfast)

Day 1: Dublin to Belfast

Leave Dublin's Paddy Palace at 8am and begin your adventures in the charming market town of Drogheda, only 30 miles from Dublin . You'll viit its beautiful Cathedral - St. Peters - and  see the preserved head of St. Oliver Plunkett (executed 1681), a truly remarkable and slightly macabre religious icon.

Youll take a short-drive up the road to visit Monasterboice, an ancient Celtic-Christian Monastery, now in a ruined state but set in idyllic rolling countryside with farming activity all around. This is the setting for the most gloriously carved Celtic High crosses from the 10th century which graphically and elaborately told  the stories of the bible to our ancestors.

A fascinating evening in Belfast awaits. We strongly recommend the world famous Black Taxi tour (optional, £8 approx) to view the Peace wall and incredible and sombering political murals. These tours are recommended by Lonely Planet as an essential activity whilst in Belfast.

We'll overnight in downtown Belfast in the University area. Take time to check out the Botanic gardens and the dreamy campus of Queens University. Brilliant nightlife awaits.

Day 2: Belfast to Historic Derry

A glorious touring day! Voted #1 drive in all of Ireland by our guides and drivers last year.

Cruise the Beautiful North Coast. You'll take a scenic hike and see the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge (seasonal - but now usually opened in the WINTER ALSO IF WEATHER CONDITIONS PERMIT - , consider crossing at your own risk for a small optional charitable donation to the National Trust, the registered UK charity that maintains the Bridge). Our Celtic brothers and Sisters in Bonnie Scotland are fully visible across the water, only 12 miles away.

Loads of time off the bus to walk to Northern Ireland's #1 Visitor Attraction - the Giants Causeway. One of the world's greatest geological attractions - an estimated 60,000 columns of basalt volcanic rock stretching up to the sky in perfect hexagonal shapes. Your 100% Irish Tour-Guide will tell you all about the story of the great Celtic Giant Finn McCool, who fought off the Scottish Giants here way back in the midst of our legends and history.

Then its onward to Historic Derry, stopping off to take fantastic photos of Dunluce Castle, the ancestral fortress of the McDonnell Clan. Editors note: In my opinion, in 10 years as a professional Paddywagon Tour-Guide, the location of this Castle is the most haunting, romantic and mindblowing of any in all of Ireland.

We'll check into our city-centre accommodation in the middle of Derry and get ready for a HUGE night-out. Many of our customers opt for a Barbeque or a group meal before going out to the world famous pub - Peadar O'Donnells, the best pub in Ireland therefore the world! Sing, dance and mingle with the welcoming and charming locals of all ages. Always a night to remember

Day 3: Derry to Dublin

Begin today with a hearty breakfast and then embark on the award-winning 'Essential Walking Tour of Historic Derry', the original and groundbreaking tour of the walled city since 1995, exclusive to Paddywagon Customers. This tour is loved by the history-nerds on our tours but skillfully uses humour and engaging historical anecdotes to bring this amazing city alive for all our travellers. Walk the City walls (1613), learn about the political murals and see the scene of Bloody Sunday (1972).

We'll take in the town of Omagh, a symbol of hope and reconciliation, as we make our way through the rolling farmland of central Ulster. Arriving back in Dublin by around 6pm.
