Your journey on this Cliff of Moher tour will take you from the banks of Dublin’s river Liffey to Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. You’ll see the biggest visitor attraction in all of Ireland and experience the nature, geology, history, culture and music of the region as we travel together.

The Cliffs of Moher are 66% as tall as New York's Empire State and stretch for almost 10km. Forming part of the edge of Western Europe, this landscape really is a "must see" on a visit to Ireland. You'll enjoy 1.5 hours at the Cliffs of Moher, which is just the right amount of time according to the 90,000 passengers who travel with us annually!

You'll also get to take in spectacular views of the incredible rocky "Burren" landscape near Galway Bay as our road trip along the coast navigates limestone hillsides with awesome vistas of Galway Bay, Aran Islands and Connemara. The plants and animals living here are unique to this ecosystem and add to the color of the trip.

For lunch you'll enjoy an hour at leisure to explore a local village , a typical small Irish town with a school, a church and several great pubs and restaurants serving seafood, soups, sandwiches and hot meals (all washed down with a creamy pint of course).

But that's not all! Other highlights of this guided day trip from Dublin include coastal drives and super views of the Atantic Ocean alongside castles and monastery ruins, hand- picked to give you an insight into Ireland's Celtic, Christian and Medieval past.

Look forward to a stop at the Fishing Village of Kinvara (famed for traditional boats called "Galway Hookers"), and imagine knights in shining armour at Bunratty Castle where we stop for photos and refreshments.

Itinerary

  • Departure — Dublin City (07:40 / 07:45 / 08:00)

We collect from three stops in Dublin city centre — please see pickup points section above - choose the most convenient when booking:

Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your chosen pickup time. There is no need to print your ticket — your booking number on your phone is sufficient. As we leave Dublin heading west, your guide will give a brief introduction to the city before the suburbs give way to the Irish midlands.
  • The Midlands & Morning Coffee Stop (approx. 09:15)

We cross the Irish midlands — flat, green, and the Ireland most visitors don't see. Keep an eye out for foals and lambs in the farmland either side of the motorway!

Your guide will keep the journey moving with stories and commentary. On this specific route, the mid-morning comfort and coffee stop is usually The Plaza Group's Athlone Service Station or the Enfield Plaza by Applegreen. You'll find restrooms, hot coffee and tea, fresh sandwiches and all kinds of snacks for the journey ahead.

By the time you stretch your legs here, you are only about an hour away from the colourful fishing boats and Dunguaire Castle in Kinvara.
  • Kinvara village

On reaching the west of Ireland, we stop in Kinvara — a small harbour village on the southern shore of Galway Bay that most visitors to Dublin have never heard of and most guests remember longer than they expect to.

The village is built around a working harbour that has been a centre of trade and fishing since medieval times. Dunguaire Castle sits at the water's edge — a 16th-century tower house that was once home to the Kings of Connacht and later to the Irish literary revival figures W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory.

The traditional wooden sailing boats moored in the harbour are Galway Hookers — the distinctive broad-beamed vessels that carried turf, cattle, and passengers across Galway Bay for centuries. Your guide will point out the best spot for a photo of the castle and the harbour together.

You'll typically enjoy approx 10 minutes here for fresh air and photos.
  • The Wild Atlantic Way & Galway Bay

From Kinvara, we join the Wild Atlantic Way — the 2,500km coastal driving route that follows the entire western seaboard of Ireland. The road south along Galway Bay gives uninterrupted views across the water to the Aran Islands: Inis Mór, Inis Meáin, and Inis Oírr. On a clear day you can see the limestone cliffs of Inis Mór rising from the water — a preview of what's ahead at the Cliffs of Moher.

Your guide will point out the Aran Islands and explain their significance — three Irish-speaking islands that maintained a way of life largely unchanged from the medieval period until the 20th century, and that produced some of the most important Irish-language literature and cinema of the last century.
  • The Burren!

The Burren is one of the genuinely strange landscapes of Ireland — 250 square kilometres of exposed limestone pavement in County Clare, formed when a tropical sea retreated 350 million years ago and glaciers scraped the surface clean during the last ice age. The result is a moonscape of cracked grey rock that somehow supports a botanical paradox: Arctic, Mediterranean, and Alpine plants growing side by side in the same fissures, because the limestone stores heat in winter and the Gulf Stream moderates the climate year-round.

Your guide will explain the geology and the ecology on the road. Watch for the stone walls that criss-cross the plateau — built without mortar by generations of Clare farmers, using the limestone that made the land impossible to plough.
  • Liscannor village

We will stop in a tiny local village called Liscannor, with time to enjoy lunch for those who are hungry.

Our guide Mick highly recommends The Frantic Chef casual restaurant for it's quick service and fresh options made with quality local ingredients.

Current specialities include traditional lamb stew, seafood chowder and smoked salmon poke bowls - for a modern twist on one of the most traditional Atlantic ingredients! Vegan and Vegetarian menu options also available.

They also offer interesting local craft beers available alongside all the classic beverage options you might expect. Why not sample the Galway Hooker or O'Hara's Pale?

Note: Lunch is not included in the tour price — this is free time to eat and explore at your own cost.
  • The Cliffs of Moher (approx 90 minutes)

The Cliffs of Moher rise to 214 metres at their highest point and stretch for 14km along the Clare coastline. EUR 12.00 entrance is included in your ticket price.

From the visitor centre, the cliff path runs in both directions. The walk north toward O'Brien's Tower (built in 1835 as a viewing platform for visiting gentry — the tower itself is open for a small additional fee) takes about 15 minutes and gives the highest vantage point. The walk south toward Hag's Head is quieter and gives the best views back along the full length of the cliffs — this is the direction our guides recommend for photography.

On a clear day, the view west takes in the Aran Islands, with Inis Mór closest at approximately 8km offshore. The cliffs drop vertically to the Atlantic below — there are no beaches, no gradual slopes, just 200 metres of sheer limestone face. The sound of the ocean and the wind at the cliff edge is part of the experience.

"The Cliffs of Moher tour is the one guests talk about for years. People think they know what to expect from the photos — and then they stand at the cliff edge and realise no photo has ever done it justice. That moment, every single time, is why I still love running this route."
    — Mick, Paddywagon Tours Dublin guide since 2017

What to wear: The cliff path is fully exposed to Atlantic weather. Even on a sunny day in Dublin, the cliffs can be windy and cold. A waterproof jacket is strongly recommended regardless of the forecast. The path is well maintained but uneven in places — comfortable walking shoes are advised.
  • Bunratty Castle Photo Stop

On the return journey to Dublin, we stop at Bunratty in County Clare for photos of Bunratty Castle — a fully restored 15th-century tower house that hosts medieval banquets in the evenings and is one of the most visited castles in Ireland.

The stop is primarily for photos and a short break of around 30+ minutes. The Woolen Mills store is open if you're looking for gifts or souvenirs, and Durty Nelly's — one of Ireland's most famous traditional pubs, established in 1620 — is next door if you'd like to raise a quick toast before the final leg back to Dublin.
  • Arrive back in Dublin City Center (approx. 20:00)

Arrive back in Dublin city center with your thirst for knowledge quenched after a fun and relaxing day out in the west of Ireland. We arrive back at the city center dropoff points at 8 pm approx - in plenty of time to enjoy an evening meal and a night of fun and entertainment.
  • Prefer the intimacy of a small group?

Day tour to Cliffs of Moher and others
Three friends and I did the day tour and it was incredible. The Cliffs of Moher and the general "greeness" throughout the trip were sights that I will never forget. However, what made the trip truly spectacular was the humor and leadership of our guide, John Kelly. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable…

Professional and fun
I did the Cliffs of Moher tour, together with my husband and my mother in law. All was perfectly timed and the bus driver, Valentine, was amazing. He gave us a lot of info, he was professional but at the same time fun and entertaining. We were very happy and we definitely recommend the company.

Cliff of Moher with Dermot - AMAZING!
We had an absolutely amazing experience with Paddywagon. Our driver Dermot was exceptional, in every way. The cliffs were just amazing, breathtakingly so. The trip was long but loaded with history and enchanting tidbits about that beautiful country and its history. We were honestly trilled and it was…
